Oakland staked their claim as early season favorites by continuing to roll this week against Birmingham. A touchdown pass by Fred Besana and a run in by Ted Torosian plus a field goal gave them a commanding first half lead of 17-0 that looked insurmountable for Birmingham.
Although the Stallions showed some signs of life in the second half, they couldn’t overcome the miscues. Quarterback Bob Lane threw two costly interceptions and the run game gained less than 100 yards against a surprisingly strong Oakland defense.
