Denver Gold Dominate Arizona Wranglers in Regular Season Finale
The Denver Gold ended their regular season on a high note with a commanding 28-6 victory over the Arizona Wranglers at Sun Devil Stadium. The Gold were led by wide receiver Lonnie Turner, who earned MVP honors with a stellar performance, catching 10 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown. Denver quarterback Bob Gagliano was highly efficient, completing 16 of 23 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns, finishing with a remarkable 131.6 passer rating.
Denver established control early, with Gagliano connecting with Turner on a 25-yard touchdown strike to cap a nine-play, 82-yard drive in the first quarter. Running backs Bill Johnson and Todd Gerhart provided balance to the offense, combining for 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Denver’s defense stifled Arizona’s offense, sacking Wranglers quarterback Vince Evans six times and forcing a critical interception in the fourth quarter. Arizona’s bright spot was their ground game, as Reggie Brown rushed for 116 yards on 18 carries, but the Wranglers failed to find the end zone despite multiple scoring opportunities.
The Wranglers struggled in the red zone, settling for two Luis Zendejas field goals, while Denver capitalized on all three of their trips inside the 20. Denver’s dominance in time of possession and third-down efficiency (7-of-12) highlighted their balanced and disciplined approach. With the win, the Gold improved to 9-8-1, clinching a playoff berth and building momentum for the postseason, while Arizona, now 11-7, will need to regroup after a disappointing end to their regular season.
