Panthers Dominate Wranglers to Stay Alive in Playoff Hunt
The Michigan Panthers delivered a dominant performance in Week 17, defeating the Arizona Wranglers 35-13 at the Silverdome to keep their playoff hopes alive. Anthony Carter starred for the Panthers, earning MVP honors with a brilliant two-touchdown, 92-yard receiving effort, including a 50-yard strike in the second quarter that shifted momentum in Michigan’s favor. Michigan’s defense also shone, forcing six Arizona turnovers, including a game-sealing 66-yard fumble return touchdown by linebacker John Corker late in the fourth quarter.
Arizona started strong with an 11-play, 89-yard opening drive capped by a Vince Evans touchdown pass to Bee Lang. However, Michigan’s defense clamped down, allowing just seven points the rest of the game. Brent Williams recorded a second-quarter safety to shift momentum, and Novo Bojovic’s reliable leg added 15 points, including a 50-yard field goal. Michigan quarterback Taylor bounced back from two interceptions to deliver two key touchdown passes to Carter, fueling the Panthers’ 22 unanswered points that spanned the second and third quarters.
Despite flashes of brilliance from Arizona’s Evans, including a late touchdown pass to Mike McDade, the Wranglers were undone by turnovers and missed opportunities. Arizona’s inability to capitalize on Michigan’s early miscues and their struggles in the red zone (1-for-2) spelled their downfall. The Panthers, now 9-8, face a pivotal Week 18 matchup as they look to secure a postseason berth, while the Wranglers, sitting at 11-6, will aim to regroup ahead of the playoffs.
