Showboats Sail Past Maulers in Dominant 52-31 Victory
The Memphis Showboats delivered a commanding performance in their Week 16 matchup against the Pittsburgh Maulers, winning 52-31 in front of an energized neutral-site crowd. Quarterback Walter Lewis stole the spotlight, combining precision passing with dynamic rushing to spearhead the Showboats’ explosive offense. Lewis threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns, including deep strikes to Derek Crawford and Mark Raugh, and added another score on the ground to seal his MVP-caliber day.
The game started favorably for Pittsburgh, as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter behind a field goal by Steve Jordan and a short touchdown plunge by Sam Miller. However, Memphis roared back in the second quarter, scoring 28 unanswered points. Running back Tim Spencer fueled the comeback with two rushing touchdowns, while Lewis’s pinpoint passing led to consecutive long touchdowns to Crawford and Raugh. Memphis’s offensive line provided excellent protection, allowing Lewis to exploit Pittsburgh’s defense with big plays throughout the night.
Despite a late surge from Pittsburgh, led by Brian Sipe’s 322-yard, two-touchdown performance, the Maulers couldn’t match Memphis’s firepower. The Showboats balanced attack racked up 520 total yards, including 216 on the ground, and converted an impressive 8 of 11 third-down attempts. With the victory, Memphis solidified their playoff positioning, while Pittsburgh fell to 8-8, ending their season with hopes of brighter days ahead.
