Bulls Edge Brass in Thrilling Shootout at the Superdome
In a high-scoring contest at the Superdome, the Jacksonville Bulls overcame a spirited effort from the New Orleans Brass to secure a 35-28 victory. Jacksonville quarterback Ed Luther led the charge, completing 18 of 29 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns, while the Bulls’ defense provided crucial plays, including a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown by Adam Hinds in the first quarter. Despite the victory, Jacksonville struggled to hold their early momentum as the Brass fought back to tie the game at 28-28 late in the third quarter.
New Orleans quarterback Rusty Hilger delivered one of his best performances of the season, throwing for 351 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite target, Jerry Parrish, was sensational, hauling in 13 receptions for 206 yards and two scores, including a 55-yard bomb that ignited the Brass’ offense in the first quarter. Running back Shane Swanson also contributed with 56 yards on the ground and a touchdown. However, critical missed opportunities, including a failed field goal and a turnover on downs in the game’s final minutes, dashed New Orleans’ upset hopes.
Jacksonville’s offensive versatility proved decisive in the fourth quarter. Luther’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Gary Clark broke the tie and capped a seven-play, 80-yard drive early in the period. The Bulls leaned on their rushing attack to run down the clock, with Shawn Jones and Larry Mason combining for 141 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Despite some late-game turnovers, Jacksonville’s defense held firm, stifling the Brass’ final push and preserving the victory. The Bulls improve to 10-4, maintaining their playoff aspirations, while the Brass drop to 2-12, showing grit despite their struggles this season.
