Los Angeles Express 14, Arizona Wranglers 20

Wranglers’ Opportunistic Defense Secures Victory Over Express

The Arizona Wranglers leaned on a stifling defense and capitalized on critical turnovers to edge the Los Angeles Express, 20-14, in a gritty Week 14 matchup at Sun Devil Stadium. Defensive back David Martin set the tone early, intercepting Los Angeles quarterback Frank Seurer and returning it 41 yards for a touchdown just over a minute into the game. Arizona added another defensive score in the second quarter when Bret Clark scooped up a fumble and dashed 33 yards to the end zone, giving the Wranglers a 14-7 halftime lead.

Offensively, Arizona managed a lone touchdown from quarterback Ron Reeves, who connected with Reggie Brown for a 9-yard score late in the third quarter. Although the Wranglers’ passing game struggled, with Reeves completing just 10 of 27 attempts for 83 yards, their ground game, led by Reggie Brown’s 98 rushing yards, provided a steadying presence. Los Angeles made things interesting in the fourth quarter when Seurer hit Kris Haines for a 55-yard touchdown strike to narrow the deficit. However, Arizona’s defense held firm in the closing moments, denying the Express on two separate fourth-down attempts to secure the victory.

The Express outgained the Wranglers with 419 yards to Arizona’s 206 but were undone by five turnovers, including four interceptions by Seurer. Arizona’s defense shined, highlighted by Martin’s two interceptions and Lance Shields’ 11 tackles. The victory propels the Wranglers to 10-4 on the season, while the Express fell to 4-9-1 despite a valiant effort led by Seurer’s 369 passing yards and two touchdowns.
