Michigan Panthers 32, San Antonio Gunslingers 14

Panthers Dominate Gunslingers to Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

The Michigan Panthers leaned on a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defense to secure a decisive 32-14 victory over the San Antonio Gunslingers at the Alamodome. Michigan quarterback Bobby Hebert led the charge with three touchdown passes, including two to running back Lacy, who also contributed 56 yards on the ground. The Panthers’ defense delivered a statement performance, sacking Gunslingers quarterback Rick Neuheisel eight times and forcing four turnovers, including a safety in the fourth quarter.

Michigan controlled the game from the outset, scoring on five of their first six possessions. Novo Bojovic’s accurate kicking provided the Panthers with a steady cushion, converting all three field goal attempts, including a 40-yarder just before halftime. Hebert’s connection with Derek Holloway for a 25-yard score and a pair of touchdown passes to Lacy in the second half helped extend the lead. Although Neuheisel found Michael McDade twice for touchdowns, San Antonio’s offensive line struggled to protect him, with Bethea and Kyle Borland combining for three sacks.

With the win, Michigan improves to 6-7, staying in the hunt for a playoff berth. Their defense, led by Ray Bentley and John Corker, clamped down on the Gunslingers’ rushing attack and limited their offensive opportunities. San Antonio, now 3-10, showed flashes of brilliance, especially in McDade’s 86-yard receiving performance, but continued miscues and missed opportunities kept them out of contention. Michigan heads into Week 14 riding a wave of momentum as they prepare for another crucial matchup.
