Breakers Mount Stunning Comeback to Top Stars 32-28
In a thrilling Week 13 matchup at Veterans Stadium, the Boston Breakers staged an extraordinary fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Philadelphia Stars 32-28. Trailing by 18 points heading into the final quarter, Boston quarterback Johnnie Walton Anderson orchestrated a series of clutch drives, throwing three touchdown passes in the last 15 minutes. Anderson’s composure under pressure was on full display, connecting with Ron Johnson, Anthony Allen, and Mike Sherrard for critical scores, the last coming with just 1:50 left in the game to secure the win.
Philadelphia appeared to have control for much of the game, powered by Chuck Fusina’s efficient passing and a balanced rushing attack led by Kelvin Bryant. Fusina threw for 320 yards and a touchdown, while Bryant added 72 rushing yards and a score. The Stars’ defense also made its mark, with Mike Lush returning an interception 63 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, giving Philadelphia what seemed to be a commanding 28-10 lead. However, turnovers and missed opportunities in the fourth quarter proved costly as the Breakers capitalized on every mistake.
The Breakers’ victory was fueled by a relentless offensive effort and a standout performance from wide receiver Frank Lockett, who tallied 164 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions. Anderson, the game’s MVP, finished with 360 passing yards and four touchdowns, overcoming two early interceptions. The win improved Boston to 3-10, matching Philadelphia’s record, and served as a bright spot in an otherwise challenging season for the Breakers.
