Memphis Showboats 7, Jacksonville Bulls 27

Bulls Dominate Showboats to Solidify Playoff Position

The Jacksonville Bulls asserted their dominance in a convincing 27-7 victory over the Memphis Showboats at the Gator Bowl. Led by quarterback Ed Luther, the Bulls methodically dismantled Memphis with a balanced offensive attack and a smothering defense. Luther threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns, earning MVP honors for his efficient and composed performance. His favorite targets, Perry Kemp and Mark Keel, accounted for both touchdowns and over half of the Bulls’ passing yardage, ensuring the home crowd had plenty to cheer about.

Jacksonville’s defense was equally impressive, holding Memphis scoreless for three quarters and forcing two turnovers. Linebacker Van Jakes was a standout, registering nine tackles and a critical interception that set up a quick touchdown run by Shawn Jones early in the fourth quarter. Memphis quarterback Walter Lewis struggled against relentless pressure, throwing for 222 yards and a lone touchdown while being sacked four times. Despite a few promising drives, the Showboats couldn’t capitalize on opportunities, including a costly fumble late in the game.

With this win, the Bulls improve to 9-4, strengthening their playoff bid while dealing a blow to Memphis’ postseason aspirations. The Showboats, now 8-5, must regroup quickly as they face a tough stretch in the final weeks of the season. Jacksonville’s next challenge will test their mettle as they travel to face a surging opponent, but their performance in this game sends a strong message to the rest of the league.
