Birmingham Stallions 27, New Orleans Brass 13

Birmingham Cruises Past New Orleans Despite Second-Half Struggles

The Birmingham Stallions seized control early and never looked back, securing a 27-13 victory over the New Orleans Brass in Week 13 action at the Superdome. Quarterback Cliff Stoudt was nearly flawless in the first half, tossing three touchdown passes and completing 21 of 27 attempts for 274 yards. His performance, combined with a balanced rushing attack led by Joel Coles’ 45 yards and a touchdown, propelled the Stallions to a commanding 27-0 halftime lead. The Birmingham defense also shined early, forcing two interceptions and holding the Brass scoreless through two quarters.

New Orleans found some life after halftime, sparked by quarterback Rusty Hilger’s persistence under center. Hilger threw for 368 yards, including two second-half touchdown passes—a 10-yard strike to Jamie Wisham and a 47-yard bomb to Bobby Leach. The Brass offense moved the ball effectively, gaining 448 total yards, but turnovers proved costly as Hilger was intercepted four times. Despite their second-half push, New Orleans couldn’t overcome their early deficit.

Birmingham’s offense sputtered in the final two quarters, managing just 143 rushing yards and missing a key field goal late. However, the Stallions’ defense held firm, forcing a crucial interception on New Orleans’ final drive to seal the win. With the victory, Birmingham improves to 8-5, remaining firmly in playoff contention, while the Brass fall to 2-11, continuing a season of struggles. Stoudt earned MVP honors for his efficiency and poise, a reflection of Birmingham’s dominant first-half performance.
