Boston Breakers 14, Pittsburgh Maulers 23

Maulers Grind Past Breakers in Defensive Battle

The Pittsburgh Maulers outlasted the Boston Breakers 23-14 in a hard-fought Week 12 clash at Three Rivers Stadium. Running back Mike Rozier powered the Maulers with a career-best 204 rushing yards on 32 carries, keeping the chains moving and the clock ticking. Quarterback Brian Sipe added two touchdowns, both to wide receiver Greg Flowers, whose explosive plays proved the difference.

After jumping to a 10-0 lead in the second quarter, the Maulers found themselves on the defensive when Boston surged back. Breakers quarterback Matt Robinson engineered two touchdown drives, including a 2-yard pass to Louis Jackson just before halftime to claim a brief 14-10 lead. However, Pittsburgh responded with a strong second half, as Sipe connected with Flowers on a 36-yard strike, and Steve Jordan added two field goals to seal the victory.

Boston’s offense struggled with consistency, hindered by dropped passes and pressure from the Maulers’ defense. Despite gaining 291 yards, they couldn’t sustain drives, converting only 2 of 10 third downs. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, controlled the game with 36:35 time of possession and a stellar ground attack. The win keeps Pittsburgh in the playoff hunt, improving to 7-5, while Boston falls to 2-10.
