The Oakland Invaders secured a crucial 27-17 victory over the Los Angeles Express in Week 11, improving to 6-5 on the season. Oakland quarterback Craig Sundberg led the way, completing 19 of 28 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. Running back John Williams contributed significantly with 93 rushing yards and a key touchdown in the fourth quarter, while kicker Jess Atkinson was flawless, hitting all four of his field goal attempts. The Invaders’ defense stood strong, forcing two turnovers and keeping Los Angeles’ offense largely in check.
Los Angeles struggled to establish their offense early in the game, only managing to score seven points by halftime. Quarterback Frank Seurer threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns but was also sacked six times by Oakland’s relentless pass rush. JoJo Townsell was a bright spot for the Express, hauling in six receptions for 102 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown. However, their inability to sustain drives and protect Seurer proved costly, as Oakland dominated time of possession and wore down the Express defense.
Oakland sealed the game in the fourth quarter when Williams’ 10-yard touchdown run gave them a 24-10 lead. A late touchdown pass from Seurer to Duane Gunn cut the deficit to 10, but it wasn’t enough. With the win, Oakland moves above .500, while Los Angeles drops to 4-7 and faces an uphill battle in their playoff hopes.
