The Memphis Showboats overcame a sluggish first half to secure a 20-3 victory over the Jacksonville Bulls in Week 11 at Neutral Park. Memphis kicker Alan Duncan gave the Showboats an early lead with a 26-yard field goal, and Jacksonville responded with a field goal of their own in the second quarter to tie the game at 3-3. Both offenses struggled to find consistency early on, with Jacksonville’s four turnovers proving to be costly as the game progressed.
In the second half, Memphis quarterback Mike Reich found his rhythm, connecting with Derek Crawford for an 11-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to break the tie. The Showboats extended their lead in the fourth quarter with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Reich to Mark Raugh, followed by another field goal from Duncan, this time from 46 yards out. Crawford’s all-around performance, which included eight catches for 104 yards and a touchdown, earned him MVP honors for the game.
Jacksonville’s offense, led by Ed Luther, failed to generate much momentum, with Luther throwing two interceptions and finishing with just 180 passing yards. Memphis dominated in time of possession, controlling the ball for over 35 minutes, while their defense forced key turnovers and held Jacksonville to only 12 first downs. The Showboats improved to 8-3 on the season, while the Bulls dropped to 7-4 in a game that could have major playoff implications.
