Houston Gamblers 28, New Jersey Generals 7

The Houston Gamblers dominated the New Jersey Generals in a rainy matchup at Giants Stadium, winning 28-7. The first half belonged to the Gamblers’ defense, as they not only shut out the Generals but also scored twice on interception returns by safety Will Lewis. After Johnny Fowler opened the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, Lewis picked off Doug Flutie twice, returning both interceptions for touchdowns, giving Houston a commanding 21-0 lead by halftime.

In the third quarter, Houston extended its lead with another touchdown from Fowler, this time a 2-yard run, capping an 11-play, 72-yard drive. The Generals struggled to move the ball, with Flutie facing relentless pressure, getting sacked four times. The Houston defense forced five turnovers, including three interceptions. Fowler finished with 52 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, while quarterback Jim Kelly threw for 305 yards but was unable to find the end zone through the air.

New Jersey’s only bright spot came late in the fourth quarter, when Flutie scrambled for a 12-yard touchdown to avoid the shutout. However, it was too little, too late as Houston controlled the game from start to finish, outgaining New Jersey 378-259 in total yardage. The Gamblers improved to 10-1 on the season, while the Generals dropped to 7-3-1, unable to overcome the Gamblers’ defensive dominance and their own costly mistakes in the turnover-heavy affair.
