San Antonio Gunslingers 14, Los Angeles Express 28

The Los Angeles Express came away with a hard-fought 28-14 victory over the San Antonio Gunslingers at the LA Memorial Coliseum, led by Steve Young’s four-touchdown performance. Young connected with JoJo Townsell for two first-half touchdowns, including a 20-yard strike in the first quarter and a 13-yard pass just before halftime, giving Los Angeles a 14-7 lead at the break. San Antonio tied the game early in the third quarter when Vic Minor intercepted Young and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown, but Young’s composure and playmaking ability would ultimately prove too much for the Gunslingers to handle.

The fourth quarter belonged to Young, who engineered two critical scoring drives to seal the win. First, he found Duane Gunn for a 27-yard touchdown early in the period, then capped off a 79-yard drive with a 10-yard pass to Gordon Hudson, putting the game out of reach with just under three minutes remaining. The Express defense stepped up late, forcing an interception and turnover on downs to end any hopes of a San Antonio comeback. Despite solid efforts from the Gunslingers’ rushing attack, which amassed 156 yards on the ground, their passing game struggled with Rick Neuheisel throwing for just 135 yards and two interceptions.

With the victory, Los Angeles improves to 4-4 on the season, keeping their playoff hopes alive, while San Antonio falls to 3-5, slipping further behind in the race. Young, who finished with 291 passing yards and four touchdowns, earned MVP honors for his standout performance, while Townsell led all receivers with 80 yards and two scores.
