The New Orleans Brass secured their second consecutive win in stunning fashion, earning the franchise’s first shutout victory with a 15-0 triumph over the Denver Gold at the Superdome. Led by quarterback Rusty Hilger, who connected with Jerry Parrish for a 12-yard touchdown in the first quarter, the Brass took control early. Though kicker Joe Giacomarro missed the extra point, his 23-yard field goal in the third quarter gave New Orleans a comfortable 9-0 lead heading into the final stretch.
New Orleans’ defense was the true star of the day, forcing three turnovers and keeping Denver off the scoreboard despite several long drives. Reggie Phillips and Mike Guess each recorded critical interceptions, with Phillips’ 26-yard return setting up the field goal that helped extend the Brass’ lead. The unit was relentless, holding Denver quarterback Bob Gagliano to just 189 passing yards and intercepting him three times. The Gold failed to convert in the red zone, coming away empty-handed on every opportunity.
The Brass iced the game with a grinding 17-play, 71-yard drive in the fourth quarter that consumed over 10 minutes of the clock. Richard Crump capped off the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run, sealing New Orleans’ 15-0 victory. Despite missing two extra points, the Brass offense controlled the tempo, while the defense delivered a historic performance that will be remembered as a turning point in the season for this young franchise.
