San Antonio Gunslingers 14, Chicago Blitz 17

In a thrilling Monday night matchup at Soldier Field, the Chicago Blitz edged out the San Antonio Gunslingers 17-14 in a game marked by tight defenses and key turnovers. Chicago, coming off a strong start to the season, managed to secure the win despite being outgained in total yardage by the Gunslingers. The game’s decisive moment came early in the fourth quarter when Chicago’s running back Spencer punched in a 3-yard touchdown, capping off a drive that followed a critical fumble recovery by the Blitz defense.

San Antonio’s quarterback Rick Neuheisel put up a valiant effort, throwing for 298 yards and two touchdowns, including a spectacular 54-yard strike to Jerry Gordon late in the third quarter that briefly gave the Gunslingers a 14-10 lead. However, Neuheisel’s three turnovers, including two interceptions and a costly fumble, ultimately hampered San Antonio’s chances of pulling off the win. The Gunslingers’ offensive line struggled to protect Neuheisel, allowing a staggering 12 sacks, with Chicago’s Karl Lorch leading the charge and earning MVP honors for his relentless pressure.

Chicago’s offense, while not flashy, capitalized on the opportunities presented to them. Running back Kevin Long’s early 4-yard touchdown run set the tone, and kicker Coral’s 46-yard field goal in the third quarter helped the Blitz keep pace. Despite a less-than-stellar performance by quarterback Landry, who was intercepted twice, Chicago’s defense stepped up when it mattered most, preserving the victory and improving their record to 3-1 on the season.
