The game started with an early touchdown by LA’s Tony Boddie, but Denver quickly responded with a safety by Calvin Turner. Bob Gagliano, who was later named MVP, led Denver’s offense with impressive precision, connecting with Leonard Harris and Vince White for touchdowns, helping the Gold build a significant lead.
The second quarter saw Denver taking control with Gagliano throwing two touchdown passes, one to Harris and another to White. Los Angeles kept the game close with a touchdown run by David Hersey, but Denver maintained their lead heading into halftime. In the third quarter, Denver continued to dominate, with Gagliano finding White for another touchdown and White adding a rushing touchdown of his own, making it 30-14.
The fourth quarter sealed the deal for Denver, as Gagliano ran for a touchdown and later connected with Harris for another score, extending the lead to 44-14. Despite a late touchdown by LA’s Steve Young on a 54-yard pass to Hersey, the Express could not close the gap.
