New Orleans Brass 28, San Antonio Gunslingers 38

The New Orleans Brass played their inaugural game against the San Antonio Gunslingers on August 14, 2023, at the Alamodome. Despite a strong effort, the Brass fell short, losing 38-28. New Orleans opened the scoring with a touchdown run by Shane Swanson and followed up with a spectacular 96-yard kickoff return touchdown by Jerry Parrish. However, San Antonio responded with two field goals and a touchdown by George Works, narrowing the halftime score to 14-12 in favor of New Orleans.

San Antonio gained momentum in the third quarter with another touchdown run by Works, taking the lead 19-14. New Orleans briefly regained the lead when Rusty Hilger connected with Henry Odom for a touchdown. However, the Gunslingers’ Scott Stamper scored three rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter, pushing San Antonio ahead 38-21. A late touchdown pass from Hilger to Parrish brought the final score to 38-28, but it wasn’t enough for New Orleans to mount a comeback.

The game featured standout performances from both teams. George Works, the game’s MVP, rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns for San Antonio. Scott Stamper also made significant contributions with 81 rushing yards and three touchdowns. For New Orleans, Jerry Parrish was a bright spot, with 155 receiving yards, a touchdown, and a kickoff return touchdown. Despite the loss, the Brass showed potential and determination in their first-ever game.
