Oakland Invaders 31, Arizona Wranglers 38

Arizona got off to a winning start in the 1984 season. They defeated the 1983 USFL Championship runner up in a back and forth affair. Tied at 31 with 7 and a half minutes to go, the Wranglers went up by a touchdown with 4 minutes left. Their defense sealed the game with a three and out and Arizona ran out the remaining time for the win.

Oakland looked just as strong this year as in their championship run last year. In spite of the loss, they gained over 500 yards of total offense. At the risk of being a too early prediction, these two teams may end up battling for the Pacific division title this year. With LA and Denver rounding things out, it might be a tough fight.
