Birmingham opened their 1984 season with a win over New Jersey. New quarterback Cliff Stoudt paid dividends already. He threw for 3 touchdowns against no interceptions and ran for another. Birmingham’s defense allowed more than 300 yards of total offense to New Jersey, but can claim victory by keeping the Generals out of the end zone.
New Jersey’s new quarterback Brian Sipe, by contrast, threw three interceptions in the game. Herschel Walker gained just over 100 yards and scored no touchdowns himself. At least into week one of the new season, the frustration continues for New Jersey and their fans.
