Game Recap
If you can call a week a trend, then some trends already appeared in Week 1 of the USFL’s inaugural season. First, only one home team won. Secondly, the offenses struggled to find their footing as defenses smothered most passing attacks and a few rushers, too. Lastly, the two night games on Sunday and Monday both saw blowouts.
In Monday’s night cap, after an interception return for a touchdown put Birmingham up 6-0, Michigan took over and rolled to 31 unanswered points and the decisive victory. The Panthers ran, literally rushing 41 times, away with the win in spite of a pedestrian performance from quarterback Bobby Hebert.
